Last day of voting for the Amazon Comic-Strip Superstar contest. There's at least one webcomic creator among the finalists, Dana Simpson of Ozy and Millie and Raine Dog.

[i]rinielenika posting in [i]ffxiljcommunity: Misc: What to level DD wise? :X + Shameless plug >.>;;

So Im starting to do more of my adventures here on LJ rather than blogspot. I cant keep toggling. So if you're interested, let me know! I'll start trying to watch more people too as this community seems to have less and less stories... I like hearing about adventures and what people do :D

warning though, I will be seperating my RL posts from my FFXI posts as much as I can. I am just starting to overhaul my LJ, so bare with me ^^; But thanks to all who are interested/want to watch me/want me to watch them back! :D

Now on to my real question..........

The more Im thinking about it, I REALLY need a DD job. I keep doing jobs that people need................... which ISNT DD USUALLY FOR MY GROUP :X But... I should level one none the less. BST doesnt really cut it there, and BLM IS a DD and all but... its more of a solo. Im totally not gonna get parties for it >.>;; unless its burns... which yeah fine and all but again.

This is what I have so far:
BLM RDM WHM BST75, NIN50, PLD45, SMN45........................

Im a magey, like hard core, or some kind of back up job :X PLD will be taken to 75 first before I take up anything else, HOWEVER.

YEAH.

SUGGESTIONS?!

We have enough SAM in our group too BTW and I wanna try something different...
But my question then is... yeah. Whats a different kinda DD job that will completely rip me out of my "I NEED TO BACK UP HEAL PEOPLE OR SOMETHING" mode?

Im kinda toggling on DRG and DRK......
DRK cause I have most of the skills from BLM (magic) and BST (weapons and skills)
DRG cause... great for merit parties.... and I love pet jobs.......

OK SHUTTING UP SUGGESTIONS?!?!?!!

[i]canadian_mutt posting in [i]ffxiljcommunity: Greetings

Figured I'd introduce myself before replying to existing posts.  Just started playing FFXI - Tarutaru: Red Mage on Fenrir - and I'm loving the game.  It's interesting following some of the posts from experienced players as I'm still etching out an existence at level 18.  Anyway, looking forward to enjoying the posts of this community.

Cheers,

[i]trippywalnut: I don't have a spare $2500

Why is it Mac can't run a positive ad? Think about it, how many years have they been running the "pc sucks!" commercial? The machines are over priced (especially if you're a gamer), and there's a severe lack of programs for it. Plus, most multi-format programs have higher system requirements for Macs.
Ugh, I'm just getting very tired of it.

[i]theljstaff posting in [i]news: LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Today's archeology class was fun! We looked at all these reliefs from an old Greek temple at Poisidonia, and tried to figure out what was depicted. I got quite a few of them right. I picked out several labors of Hercules, the Niobids, and even managed to figure out (without ever having come across the idea before) that a centaur with human forefeet is supposed to represent Chiron (because being more civilized than the other centaurs, he naturally has more human in him. The result, however, is even more anatomically unfortunate than ordinary centaurs. I get this horrible feeling that he must have two sets of genetalia.)

Then the prof got to a weird little image of a guy in a pointed hat riding on a large turtle. When we couldn't identify it, he showed us a vase and a signet ring with similar images: guy in pointed hat riding a turtle. The turtle is swimming across the open sea, and the guy riding it is using a leafy branch, dangling-carrot style, to keep it swimming in the direction he wants. That's when I burst out with, "oh, I know this one! It's Jack Sparrow escaping from the Island of the Rumrunners!"

The prof laughed and admitted it was a trick question: based on the pointed hat, the guy riding the turtle has been cautiously identified as Odysseus, but it's plainly from a story that's been lost to us. I still like my answer.

[i]demiurgent posting in [i]snarkoleptics: John Stark, Advertising and You

I should make mention of two facts that I don't think I've crossposted to Snarkoleptics.

1) Brigadier John Stark is back. And in fact has been back since October 26.

2) It is now possible to advertise on the site, thanks to the good people at Project Wonderful.

Regardless of whether or not you elect to advertise with the General, I hope you have a chance to read through his stuff. While my health hasn't permitted things like story or essay writing, the strips seem doable and it's a nice stress release.

Thanks as always!

Today my Ancient Science class learned the proper pronunciation of Soranus. The prof told this story about how he always thought it had a short 'a', until he went and heard this lecture on 'The Gynaecology of Soranus' by this very highly respected British guy. The worst part, he said, was that everybody else in the audience knew it was supposed to be pronounced that way, so he was the only guy who was laughing.

[i]ted_the_robot posting in [i]snarkoleptics: new tiny ghosts book available

Pleased to announce that the second tiny ghosts anthology is now available. Admittedly, every comic in the anthology is already available online for free. However, if you buy the book, then you can take it with you and enjoy tiny ghosts in all sorts of places that are not internet accessible - such as airplanes, deserted islands, and maximum security prisons. In addition, the anthology contains several behind the scenes segments that explain how the comic is created.

You can get more information and order the book direct from me at:
http://www.tinyghosts.com/books/

or, you can get it at amazon at:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1931468281/invisiblecoll-20

If you get it from me, the book will come signed. If you get it from amazon, I won't have to walk to the post office.

My Greek class is currently covering the 'optative' mood. The optative is a special form of a verb which is used to mean something like "I wish X would happen."

This has some interesting consequences. If you use, say, the 3rd person singular optative form of the verb eimi, "to go", you get a word that means "I wish Soenso would go away." One word! It's not even a long word - it's four letters.

You may wonder what those four letters are. Well the 'stem' of eimi is just i. To represent an optative, you tack on a dipthong: in this case, it happens to be oi. And the 3rd person singular ending is h. So the Ancient Greek word for "I wish Soenso would go away" is ioih.

That's four vowels in a row! Stupid Greeks, no wonder they got conquered. You don't see the Romans lining up four vowels and calling it a word. How the hell do you even pronounce that? "ee-oi-yay"? That's not a word, that's the chorus of Old MacDonald.
